The Story of Periphery
Periphery Cellars was born from a desire to move outside the boundaries of traditional winemaking, not to separate from Colorado’s wine community, but to add something new to it.
After years working within established wineries, winemaker Joe Flynn set out to create a project that allowed for complete creative freedom. A space where curiosity leads, and each wine is shaped by instinct, place, and timing rather than expectation.
Launched on February 22, 2022, Periphery quickly found its audience. Small releases, personal stories, and a commitment to doing things differently created a following that seeks out each bottle with intention.
Every label carries meaning. Drawn from lived experiences, personal moments, and a deeper creative journey, they reflect not just what’s in the bottle, but where it came from.
Periphery Cellars exists at the edge of convention.
A place where wines are made without limitation, but always with purpose.
Meet the Winemaker
Joe Flynn
Periphery Cellars is the personal work of Joe Flynn, a winemaker whose path into wine began far outside the vineyard.
After serving in the Navy, Joe pursued culinary school, where he developed a deep appreciation for food, wine, and the way they come together. That early curiosity led him through formal sommelier training and years spent exploring the relationship between flavor, place, and experience.
His transition into winemaking began in Colorado’s Grand Valley, where he gained hands-on cellar experience before stepping into the role of head winemaker at Plum Creek. Along the way, he expanded his craft through sparkling wine production and later formalized his education through the UC Davis winemaking program, graduating in 2022.
In recent years, Joe spent two years traveling across global wine regions, immersing himself in vineyards, cellars, and conversations with world-class winemakers. Those experiences helped refine his perspective, shaping a deeper understanding of both tradition and possibility.
Periphery Cellars became his outlet to create without limits.
The Periphery Circle
Periphery Cellars produces fewer than 350 cases each year. Most releases are limited, and many never reach beyond a small circle of collectors.
The Wine Club offers direct access to these wines, along with early releases, allocation opportunities, and insight into what’s coming next from the cellar.
Membership is designed for those who value rarity, expression, and a deeper connection to the craft behind each bottle.
This is not a typical wine club.
It is an invitation into the process.
